Updated: Mar 5, 2022

The third chapter in our book called Nature-based Play & Expressive Therapies is authored by Dr. Angela Cavett and is called Creation of Safe Space for Transformation and Healing: The Chrysalis Model of Intentional Design for Healing Gardens. In this chapter, Dr. Cavett walks us through a magical experience of the creation of her healing garden used for helping children and families in therapy. The chapter is full of inspiration, practical tips and beautiful images. We learn, in this chapter, about the development of four different kinds of healing gardens created with intentional purpose. The chapter includes two case vignettes that highlight the clinical use of the labyrinth that is found in one of the gardens

Dr. Cavett inspires child and family therapists to combine evidence-based play and expressive therapeutic interventions through her writing and training. The tender care with which she wrote this chapter mirrors the tender care with which she created the four healing gardens at her center in North Dakota.

Dr. Angela Cavett is a Licensed Psychologist, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Clinical Director at Chrysalis Behavioral Health Services and Training Center in Fargo, ND where she has created Healing Gardens.
